Generation Fate was founded in 2007 by Placer County native Nick Cunningham when he was exposed to disheartening stories surrounding foster youth. Late one evening, he was searching the internet reading articles and watching videos explaining the challenges that many foster youth face. Continually he was alarmed and surprised to learn that a large number of foster youth experience homelessness, incarceration, teen pregnancy and drug addiction at some point in their life. Eventually, he stumbled across a statistic testifying that only 1% of foster youth graduate college. Having recently experienced a life changing four years at University of California at Santa Cruz, Nick’s heart was touched and he decided to take action and do something to help.
Eventually, Nick would end up leaving his career and passion for globe trotting and dedicate his life to serve children right in his own backyard. With little experience in social services and the foster care system, he spent two years using Generation Fate as an exploratory organization that was committed to developing programs and providing the resources necessary for foster youth to achieve success as children and as adults. After researching the countries top programs and launching several test projects, Generation Fate has now developed effective programs based around their research and experiences…programs that are clearly showing results.
