Children 0-18 years old that have suffered neglect or abuse at home are removed from these situations and placed into foster care.
Foster care in the United States is an immense system designed to provide these children with temporary care or a “safe haven” while their home provisions and environment are improved before their safe return. Unfortunately, too many of these children do not return to their original homes and are trapped within the foster system for years.
Foster care is clearly an over burdened system with inadequate staffing and funding necessary to create an environment of wellness and self-esteem for foster youth. These children often continue to face lives of chaos and instability. As a result, the odds of our foster youth becoming self-reliant adults with a healthy self-esteem by the time they are fully emancipated are low. Recognizing that these odds are not a given and that the foster care system is burdened with a lack of resources, we strive to fill the critical gaps within the foster care system with the support of our community.
